Tips

There’s a lot to think about when planning a wedding! This page is full of helpful tips to consider when planning your first dance.

Choosing your First Dance Song

We can work with any song you choose for your wedding dance - but you may want to think about a few things before you decide.

Read the Lyrics

I suggest you check out the lyrics to make sure you know what they’re singing about. Some really nice songs often have sad endings, or are about breaking up…perhaps not what you want on your wedding day!

Consider whether the lyrics send the message that you want to your wedding guests - be it silly, funny, romantic, cute, ironic…or just a song you both like.

Check the Speed

Generally, slower songs are more suitable for a first dance, especially if you’re looking for something romantic, or you are wearing heels, a long dress, or have big hair!

A song with a BPM (Beats per Minute) of 80-120 is probably about right. That being said, we can use any song you choose for your wedding dance and I will give you advice to make it work.

Wedding Dance Song Ideas

You might know exactly which song you want, or have no idea what to choose for your first dance.

My ‘Wedding Dance Songs’ Spotify playlist includes some nice first dance songs. Check it out using the link below.

If you want something a little different, try looking for covers or instrumental versions of songs you like.

Playing your Music

If you are going to have a band play your wedding dance, it may differ from the version you’ve been practising to. Consider asking them to send you an audio clip of the song as it will be played.

If you are using Spotify or another site, make sure you have downloaded the song to avoid any buffering / connectivity issues.

Test the music at the venue to ensure you can hear the song start playing.

Depending on what you want from your wedding dance, you may need to think about what you are going to wear.

What to Wear

If your song is fast, it will be easier in flatter shoes (low heel) and you will want the shoe to secure around your ankle. I suggest you practice in the shoes you will wear on the day if you can.

Some brides change outfits for their wedding dance, or have their dressmaker put a hook in their dress so a long train can be shortened to make sure you don’t trip over it.

Consider the dance floor you are having too - will it effect how easily you can move around?
